It's all about Your Freedom of Speech!

A word from Lock.....

I do some stupid things from time to time and losing my temper is one of them, I regret it. I make no excuses but I do feel that reports of my short temper and violent nature have been greatly exaggerated.  I will give anyone a chance and I hire many people who otherwise could not find work. Most of the time, things go well and these folks either work here for many years or go on to better jobs elsewhere. Sometimes it doesn't work out and I know for a fact that people who quit or get fired spread false stories about how I abused them.

Ten years ago, when my enemies all came together to run me out of the county once and for all, they wanted the state to revoke my veterinary license forever. The state will only do this if the veterinarian is a "threat to the community". Letters were written to the Virginia Board of Veterinary Medicine stating that I was such a threat. A phony assault charge was brought against me to support this nonsense and my military record was used to support the charge that I have a violent past. How about that? I have a "violent" military record.

Actually, my life experiences have taught me that physical violence is a  poor solution to most problems and I am probably the least violent person around.  I had no intention of striking Richard at the meeting but he was clearly out of line and was deliberately saying untrue things on the radio to undermine and damage my marriage. I won't go into details, but our dispute had nothing whatsoever to do with the public policy.  He was muttering things that were truly awful and I wanted to get closer to confront him personally. I would expect the same actions from any husband in the County.

Tom Rose and Crystal Harris couldn't get their cell phones out fast enough to call 911. The entire episode was absolutely ridiculous. Speaking of the Board I am less short tempered and much less likely to assault someone than at least two other sitting members of the Board.  Patrick County is a nice place for the most part, our people are kind and gentle, but I have confronted evil here. The kind of evil that would endanger the life of a teenage girl just to make a few more filthy dollars.

Now, I can be as nice as anybody but when some low-down greedy crook comes up with some way to pad his pockets with our tax money instead of putting it into things to benefit the county as a whole . . .Well, I can be not very nice.

I have known Ms. Teresa Roberson for nearly thirty years and I think she is a very nice person but we do disagree on several important issues and y'all should vote for one or the other of us based on those differences.  I am opposed to building another single inch o the mayo River Rail trail, no matter what.  I am opposed to giving a single dime of County tax money to any private business for "economic development". In fact, I want to make the EDA into an EDC with advisory powers only.  I want to minimize out expenditures on tourism promotion and defund the tourism advisory committee.

I want to increase support for quality of education and public safety.  I want to cut property and  real estate taxes 10% across the board.  Look, if your dog is too fat and you want him to loose weight you don't fill up his food bowl and ask him to eat all but 10% less dog food in the bowl. I never known anybody to run for supervisor that didn't promise to cut waste and lower taxes. I am telling you exactly how to do it.

The military project would have brought prosperity to the County but it was intentionally destroyed by someone in the county government. Those 1200 jobs were not for "blowing up" animals.  The animal research would have been a small part of an installation designed to study all aspects of explosions: including protective measures, detection of the explosive devises and the disarming of bombs.  Within ten years there would have been office blocks, laboratories, billets for troops and an air base for helicopters and C-130 type aircraft.  whoever sold us out gave PETA the correct project number.  I didn't even have that but people in our County government had access to it and unless Jay Scudder was running his mouth and shouting out the project number, then that was not the source of the leak.

The point is, the rat who did this may still be on the Board of Supervisors or in the county government and until we deal with this problem, then we're wasting our time and money on economic development.  If I had not been on the Board of Supervisor, I doubt you would even know that such a project was offered to Patrick County.  I also doubt you would have known that the GOF payments were made to Ten Oakes or that the County was trying to waive building permit fees for rich guys and you might not know that the Rail Trail has cost us $288,000.00 You may not agree with my stands on some issues but at least you are aware of them and we can talk about their merits.

Finally, Dr. Jonathan Adcock is a great veterinarian and a fine person. He is hardworking, smart, conscientious and quite competent  in small and large animal practice.  This practice and this community are very fortunate to have him.  Even so, they still find a little something for me to do around the clinic and I am not planning an early retirement.  I will appreciate your vote on Nov. 8th.  I will continue to work for the County whether of not I serve on the Board of Supervisors and I truly believe that better times are coming to this beautiful place.

Best Regards,

Lock Boyce
